What can you check at the pharmacy?
- Blood pressure: measured with a validated clinical monitor, at rest and following the correct protocol.
- Blood glucose: capillary measurement, useful for diabetes monitoring or indicative screening.
- Written record: your readings with date and time, ready to show your doctor — in Spain or in your home country.
Why measure at the pharmacy rather than only at home?
Hypertension is the leading cardiovascular risk factor and around four in ten people who have it don’t know they have it, because it causes no symptoms. A properly taken reading — after 5 minutes at rest, with the right cuff size and no caffeine beforehand — is a great complement to the home monitoring recommended by clinical guidelines: we teach you to measure correctly at home and review your records with you. A pharmacist can also spot values that need medical attention and help you read trends, not isolated numbers.
When should I see a doctor?
We will tell you clearly when we hand you the result. As a general reference (Spanish Society of Hypertension), repeated readings above 140/90 mmHg should be medically assessed. For glucose, repeated fasting values above 126 mg/dl (7.0 mmol/L, the units used in the UK) require confirmation with a laboratory test.

Does a glucose check replace a lab blood test?
No. Capillary glucose is indicative and useful for monitoring, but diagnosis always belongs to your doctor with a laboratory test.
